i love a good polka...

polka as in the print, not the dance, haha...  When I saw this fabric I knew I had to make a skirt with it.  I decided to make the simplest skirt I could with one meter of fabric and using a thick piece of elastic for the waistband.  I used my recently acquired serger for most of the construction and am so excited about how easy it is to sew once you have a serger!  This skirt is lined in a plain black chiffon and is long enough to even be worn as a dress, which you might see this summer!  I wore this outfit to a Good Friday get together with family.
skirt: self-made
shirt: jacob
scarf: le chateau

it feels like spring...

outfit details: skirt: self-made
shirt: Joe Fresh
sweater: Suzy Shier
belt: vintage
tights: Joe Fresh
shoes: Salt & Pepper

Wow, spring hit early this year!  These photos were taken on St. Patrick's day, which was just beautiful!  Right now it's a bit chilly but all the snow has melted and the trees have started to bud.  I've started rearranging my closet, putting away winter clothes.  I love this time of year!  I can't believe what a difference it is from last year, I thought it would be fun to take photos in the same location that I went to last year on March 17th, view that full post here.

le festival du voyageur...

We went to Le Festival du Voyageur on February 18th.  One of the bands Andrew is in played there: The Dirty Catfish Brass Band.  It's always a fun time, in its' 43rd year the festival celebrates the "joie de vivre" of the fur traders who established the Red River Colony and French-Canadian community throughout western Canada.  Read more about the history of the festival here.

I went to the Festival last year and blogged about it here.  I wore my mukluks then too, it was a lot colder last year though.  Also, last year there was a lot more snow.  This year the Festival actually had to bring in fake snow to make all the snow sculptures.

Grace came with us and we enjoyed some pea soup, caribou liquor, snow sculptures, good company and GREAT music!

outfit details:
mukluks: Authentic Aboriginal (handmade) purchased directly from the artist
sweater: handmade- vintage
scarf: Le Chateau
earrings: a market somewhere in Paris (a gift)
